Years
of experience :
The Ecole de ski Argentière was founded
in 1937 by Robert Ducroz and his friend Marcel
Charlet. In those days, skiing was principally a means of transport.
It wasn’t considered as an enjoyable past time. These two pioneering
skiers wanted simply to share their passion and knowledge with others. Today,
with seventy years of experience, our instructors here at the école
de ski Argentière continue to share our founders’ visions,
even if times have changed.. Professionalism, pleasure and passion are
still key to our teaching, as they were when the école de ski Argentière
was founded.
How we developed
:
The ecole de ski Argentière was the first ski school in the Chamonix
valley, and one of the first in France, followed, a few years later by our friends
in Chamonix. In 1945, the Syndicat National des Moniteurs de Ski was established.
The ecole de ski Argentière was one of the original members of this association,
bringing ski schools with the same standards and the same passion for skiing
together. The ecole de ski Argentière played an important part in
developing winter sports, and continues to do so. The fact that the national
training centre for instructors and mountain guides, the Ecole Nationale de Ski
et d’Alpinisme, is in the Chamonix valley, means we are still involved
in todays’ changes and developments in skiing and mountaineering.
Steady growth :
The Ecole de ski Argentière really grew when ski lifts were built in Argentière
itself. When it was founded in 1927, the Ecole de ski Argentière had two
instructors, then three, while today there are one hundred and twenty, of whom
about sixty are full time. As the Chamoinx valley developed and grew in size
and popularity, the Ecole de ski Argentière did too.
ESF past and present :
Where you’ll
find us :
Even as the number of instructors grows, the Ecole
de ski Argentière maintains the same high standards when it comes
to welcoming and listening to our clients, with a dedicated team working
in the offices of the Ecole de ski Argentière. To help you,
there are three offices at different locations in the valley. The first,
in the heart of the village of Argentiere, is open every day until 19h. The
two other offices are right by the main ski lifts ; one at the base
of the Lognan cable car at the Grands Montets ; the other just by
the telecabines which take you up to the domaine de Balme, in the village
of Le Tour. Wherever you are staying in the Chamonix valley, an Ecole
de ski Argentière office is not far away.
